Remote Mirroring

Business Continuity through Flexible Mirroring!
IBM XIV supports business continuity through asynchronous and synchronous mirroring, in support of disaster recovery and remote backup solutions. Its mirroring options cover a broad spectrum of customer replication needs, including support for virtually unlimited distances between sites.

XIV mirroring can be issued automatically, based on user-configurable schedules, or manually, using dedicated commands, or both.

The flexibility and power of XIV asynchronous mirroring is delivered through the XIV system's familiar and easy-to-use user interface, streamlining day-to-day mirroring-related operations.

The XIV system offers mirroring with broad support:
  • Asynchronous and synchronous mirroring
  • Volume-level and consistency group-level replication, supporting relationships with up to 16 target XIV systems
  • Flexible mirroring options that help reduce costs typically associated with replication
  • Mirroring of volumes and/or consistency groups
  • Flexible replication through independent Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) and intervals between asynchronous mirrors:
    • Independent of mirroring schedules, RPOs can range from 30 seconds to 24 hours, and intervals can range from 20 seconds to 12 hours
    • Facilitates flexible planning and priority setting based on business needs
  • Bidirectional mirroring
  • FC and iSCSI-based mirroring, with the mirroring protocol agnostic to the host protocol (mirroring via iSCSI volumes served by FC and vice versa)
The XIV system's remote mirroring capability provides a flexible, cost effective, simple to implement, and simple to test solution for a disaster recovery site.

“The XIV system's remote mirroring creates a simple and robust way to protect data and maintains availability even through failures that knock out a whole site.”
