Management Tools
GUI
The XIV system's simple GUI is designed to allow administrators to manage and monitor all aspects of the system quickly and easily, with an almost zero learning curve. The critical operational activities, such as major configuration changes, volume creation, volume deletion, and snapshot definitions, are done in just a few clicks with the highly intuitive and user-friendly GUI.
A set of wizards guides the administrator through the steps of system configuration, allowing complex administration tasks to be completed without prior training.
Defining a volume, for example, requires little more than specifying the size — an action easily handled via the straightforward GUI. The system's management module works behind the scenes, automatically handling all important and complex considerations of load balance, redundancy, and data distribution. Transparent self-management spares administrators such tasks, without requiring their intervention whatsoever.
CLI (Command Line Interface)
A powerful command line interface tool enables the writing of complex scripts for high-level system administration and integration with hosts and applications.
Event notification
The system's powerful event notification engine sends system alerts via email, SMS, or SNMP traps. Alerts can be filtered and sent to the various destinations based on severity or type. Event notifications can be configured to be sent repeatedly or to escalate to a wider distribution list should events not be handled within a specific time frame.
