About

Today, XIV® is an integral part of the IBM Storage offering. It began as a startup, founded in 2002, and was acquired by IBM at the end of 2007,

Developing the XIV system involved serious deep-diving to figure out how to push the technology envelope to overcome traditional storage barriers and meet customer needs caused by the data explosion, while leveraging the latest in emerging product technologies. In the process, we developed not just a system, but expertise.

The XIV blog serves as a forum for sharing ideas on storage technology, its implementation in the field, and where the industry is headed. We aim to discuss technology, not products. We hope to establish a dialog that is serious, open, and professional, focused on how to ideally implement and use storage so as to enhance the end user’s solutions.

We target this blog at storage administrators, IT managers, and other IT professionals, as well as developers of storage technology.

The blog will host a variety of writers, most of whom, but not all, are on the XIV team. We invite anyone who is interested in being a guest contributor to contact us.

We invite all readers to comment on the ideas presented here, expressing their perspective on the issues raised.

We know that an open and constructive discussion is sometimes more important than finding the right answer (if one even exists).
